Today marks the official date – April 13 – which is exactly one year from our US Individual Championships (April 13-15, 2012)! This will be the first time that this prestigious orienteering event has come to Georgia. In fact, it is the first time it has come to the Southeastern US. It will be an historic event for that reason alone.

 

We cannot do it without our dedicated volunteers. We need to staff the usual jobs, but will also have some extra tasks that need attention. We also want to make it possible for everyone that wants to compete to do so.

Have you seen those TV commercials for UWG?  Young man says goodbye to his friends, hops on his motorcycle, and rides off - to college. "A little West of all the rest" the narrator says, ending with "Go West". The school is the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, with over 11,000 students. You can watch the TV commercials at the UWG website.

 

It's also the location for the US Trail and Sprint Championships in 2012. In fact, at the end of that TV commercial there is a picture of the campus showing a big grassy area with an imposing building behind it. That's "Love Valley", where we plan to have the start and finish for the US Sprint champs. It will be on Friday afternoon 4/13/2012 (a year from tomorrow!).

Remember the weather this week, because there is a good chance that the weather for next year's A meet will be similar. Yes, we are a year away from the Georgia Navigator Championships 2012. There will be some changes next year, so I thought I would take some time this week to answer some of the questions we have gotten.

The Cambridge Sports Union submited a bid to host the 2011 U.S. Orienteering Champs in Boston Oct 21-23, 2011. See bid at Orienteering USA Website.
 


Georgia Orienteering Club (GAOC), chartered in 1980 by the United States Orienteering Federation (now Orienteering USA), fosters the sport of orienteering through education, outreach, map development, and competitive events.

 

GAOC has hosted more than 20 national A-Meet competitions since 1985 including the U.S. Interscholastic Champs (2000), U.S. Trail-O Champs (2001), U.S. Radio-O Champs (2002), and the United States Orienteering Convention (2003).
